Ironworker
A union ironworker apprentice learns to fabricate, assemble, and install steel structures under the guidance of experienced journeymen while adhering to safety protocols.
A union ironworker apprentice assists in the fabrication, assembly, and installation of steel structures, including buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure projects. Under the supervision of experienced journeymen, apprentices learn to read blueprints, operate various equipment, and perform welding tasks while adhering to strict safety protocols. Responsibilities include lifting and positioning steel components, fastening parts together using bolts and welding equipment, and ensuring the structural integrity of the finished product. Apprentices participate in classroom training and hands-on practice to develop their skills, gain knowledge of industry standards, and progress towards becoming a fully qualified journeyman ironworker.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must have high school diploma or GED
- Must be physically able to perform the required work
- Must pass drug and alcohol screening
- Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Must be legally able to work in the United States

To complete an application please visit Ironworkers Local Union 568 at 119 S. Centre Street, Cumberland, MD 21502 bring proof of age, photo I.D., High School Diploma/GED as well as a copy of high school transcripts. Applications will be held on file for 6 months.
